Ultra Lords; Ultra Marathon Relay Team
A team of nine distance runners is poised to expand upon the normal experience of the 2011 Hood to Coast Relay. They will begin by running the Relay course in reverse from Coast to Hood, and will also parlay their extra mileage and physical efforts into an opportunity to raise money for several charities.
In a test of endurance never attempted previously at this race, the UltraLords 2.0 Double Trouble team will begin their event in Seaside, Ore. on Thursday, August 25, mimic the Relay’s series of handoffs in reverse until reaching Mt. Hood’s Timberline Lodge, and then join the other 1,000+ teams for the westward migration back to the beach, finishing the 400-mile journey on Saturday, August 27.
The UltraLords have selected the following charities as beneficiaries of their fundraising efforts: Albertina Kerr Center, Boys & Girls Aid, Children’s Cancer Association, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Nature Conservancy, Oregon Food Bank, Portland Homeless Family Solutions, Pray America, and Sparrow Clubs USA. Inquiries, contribution, feedback and general support are welcome at the team’s e-mail address, or at their team page on Facebook.
Team members range in age from 39 to 55 and together have nearly 90 years of previous Hood to Coast experience over the event’s three decades of existence. For this rendition they will each average 44 total miles spread across 8 relay rotations encompassing over fifty consecutive hours.
